The Same At First, But It Takes Some Nice Twists! March 30, 2010 Mark McGranahan (Hebron,KY USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, first of all if you haven't played the first Bioshock, stop reading this and go do so! Once that is done, and you fire up Bioshock 2 for the first time, you will notice that it feels very similar...which for the most part, is a GOOD thing! I would agree with all the reviews (professional and otherwise) that some of the novelty of Rapture and it's citizens is lacking...but that's to be expected in any sequel (although Assassin's Creed 2 did a pretty good job surpassing 1 in every way!. However, what this game lacks in that area, it makes up for with improved game mechanics (i.e. having access to plasmids and weapons at the same time). There are quite a few more ways to personalize Delta (your character..although it seems he doesn't really become a beast until the end of the game. I did enjoy the storyline quite a bit, as it explored the Big Daddy/Little Sister relationship from a first person view...and near the end the game takes a very interesting twist! Overall, I believe that most will enjoy playing through this story more than the first..it just has more emotion and personal connection. You certainly feel the familiarity of the first game in this one...but for anyone who enjoyed Bioshock when it was released (or any time since!)...this game is a MUST HAVE! Kudos to 2K studios for picking up the drill and running with it! :)
Fun, but lacking March 27, 2010 Zachary Schreiber (Shelton, WA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pros: Fun to play, interesting, keeps you involved until the end. (Hard to pull off with me, I rarely/never finish video games)
Cons: Fairly short, not much explanation of backstory (I didn't play the first one, had to look up the plotline on the internet).
A slow burn... March 26, 2010 Adam C. Pare (San Diego CA USA) It took me a few hours to get into it, but it ended up being a lot of fun. This game is not like most current "run-and-gun" shooters where you can expect checkpoints to save your butt. You need to be very methodical and careful about moving around the world, and you need to save ALOT! Once you get in the right mindset then the game is a blast. And actually towards the end I thought it was way too easy.
The story feels a little slapped together compared to the first game, but it's still light years better than most videogame plots. There is a huge amount of variety in the weapons and plasmids, such that you could probably play through the game two or three times with different focuses. All in all, it's nice to return to Rapture for a second go through, but the whole thing has something of a straight-to-DVD quality. If you liked the first one you should play this, but I'm personally not that interested in a third installment unless it's very different.
Impressive March 26, 2010 EAL (New York, NY) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great game. Great story. Very responsible. I can't say enough good things about this game.
I would recommend playing Bioshock first if you really want to get into the story.
Buggy March 26, 2010 V. Seale 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great game, but I encountered a bug. After restarting the game, one of my saves reverted to a save I made an hour earlier. I am one of those people that save frequently, so why did it not revert to the one I made 5-10 minutes prior the very last save? How could ALL of those saves have suddenly become corrupted? The save I lost was during the third level of the game, right before a Big Sister fight. I had actually restarted the game during that same fight once before, and it worked just fine. My save was still there. Be cautious and always make more than one save, frequently!
