I'm no critic, but I know awesomeness when I see it. July 29, 2010 Pac-Man 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've experienced alot of great things in my life. Mountain climbing, scuba diving, sky-diving, even space travel. But the greatest thrill I've ever known has been playing Fallout 3.
Seriously, there's not really alot I can say that hasn't already been said. No matter what platform you game on, if you like action, exploring a detailed and vast world, meeting unique and interesting characters, and fighting for survival against...well you never know what's coming at you next, then you owe it to yourself to check this game out. I enjoy games of all sorts, but I can't imagine not having Fallout 3 in my game library now.

The PS3 version is super buggy. There is no acknowledgment of the problems from it's maker. On bethesda's own ps3 forum nearly every single post (and every other Amazon review here) complains about the problems with freezing and lockups. Due to the total black out of the issues, I personally can not justify buying any other software from Bethesda. I am personally boycotting all Bethesda products until they make right with their users on this product!
Logically, how they treat their customers for this release establishes how they will treat them in any future release. Why would you expect anything else? Do you think just because you give them $50-60 again that the results next time will magically be better? Obviously the PS3 is the platform they are least-good-at-developing-at. They are setting their own quality bar, and my friends, it is very very low.
Due to this most serious quality issue, Sony should immediately drop their developer contract and suspend all future sales of Bethesda products until they agree to fix the quality issue with this existing product. Sony must take the heat for this as well for allowing these serious problems to exist on their platform, otherwise Sony is condoning sub-par quality products.
There is no possible way a developer is this completely out of touch with the state of their products, and the frustration levels of their users. I am nearly certain they have no-comments-allowed mandate on this quality issue, for the express purpose of milking the market with their bug ridden product, without any intentions of ever fixing the issues.
I don't see any reason for there not to be a class action suit to compensate those of us most unfortunate to purchase this atrocious product. And further, this product is still on the market, still being sold with new people becoming victims of these severe quality issues every day, and Bethesda knows it but just don't care. Corporate greed and corruption at it's worst!
Unfortunately bricks and mortar customers, which make up a significant percent of their sales, do not see these comments or reviews unless they explicitly go look for them ahead of time, so they are still stumbling into sales.
STEER CLEAR OF THIS PRODUCT!!!
avoid the PS3 GOTY edition June 13, 2010 Dennis Bean 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
So I was hyped to play the expansion packs finally. I got my copy, started playing it and after mqaybe 40 minutes the problems started. I enterd the Point Lookout area and started having massive framerate drops and freezing. The first time it happened in VATS, but the game unfroze after a few seconds. Ok I thought, maybe just a one-time thing. Less than a minute later, the game freezes again. This time though, it stayed frozen, causing me to do a hard reset on my PS3. I gave it another shot and still got the same issues.
After letting the game collect dust, I recently tried another DLC, this time The Pitt. I got maybe 10 minutes in and had yet again massive framerate issues. This eventually led to a frozen game. What is going on here?
I have tried everything to fix this. Started in safe mode and restored file system. Reinstalled the Game Data numerous times, tried saving often, but all to no avail. The worst part is that vanilla Fallout 3 works perfect, except for the occasional 1-second pause, which rarely ever happens and always fixes itself. Bethesda is also no help, as they advised me to do the things which I had already tried. Eventually, Bethesda said to check their site often for patch news and that was the last I heard from Bethesda.
Put simply, the GOTY edition for PS3 is broken beyond belief. Avoid this at all costs, or buy it for the 360 or PC. Numerous other PS3 owners of the GOTY edition report these same problems. As stated above, the original Fallout 3 works perfectly, along with every other game and Blu-Ray movie, so it is not my PS3. Avoid this on PS3 or buy at your own risk. Me, I ordered it for PC, because there are patches which make the PC GOTY very playable and because of mods.
Cant get enough. June 11, 2010 Billy Adkins (ATX) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this game wholeheartedly and cant wait for the Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Edition.
I do however recommend that if you have a capable PC to buy this game for PC and download the G.E.C.K. If you like to mod for games this is a great one to mod for. There is a huge community for modders for Fallout 3 and the things you can do are seemingly limitless. For example you can...
Add new perks, have ridable mounts, have new companions, new housing options, change the animations, add an expanded arsenal of weapons and armor, wear disguises to fool different factions.
It is a must in my opinion to play this game to its fullest.
Cheers,
Billy
Expansions Improve an Already Almost Perfect Game June 6, 2010 M. Bartlett 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you've never played Fallout 3 then just get it - I promise you won't regret it.
If you're like me and already played the original Fallout 3 and are thinking of buying this for the expansions, I would give advice similar to what I just wrote above.
There are some technical flaws, yes, but overall the expansions give many, many hours more of a very fun game. In short, I doubt you will regret this purchase, especially if you buy it used and it costs around $30.
