2 out of 5 stars Not That Good...   December 11, 2005
This game isn't good. Its not even decent. If your to lazy to read my review below just read this: if your thinking about getting this game DONT. Instead get Super Mario, Street Fighter, Tony Hawk American Sk8land, Need For Speed Underground 2, or any other game besides this.
I will score the game in 5 catogories. Also, I'd like to note the rating system was copyed from www.ign.com which is an excellent source for game reviews that you should consider taking a look at.

Presentation 4/10
This category includes everything from the quality of the manual and packaging to the menu layout and game options:

This game doesnt have a game save slot, instead the idiotic producers of this game make it so every time you beat a level theres a password you write down which makes the game low quality and unsatisfactory. There is however, a neat little 12 inch by 8 inch poster that comes packaged with the game. The poster shows a picture of Van Helsing from the movie. ( Hugh Jackman)

Graphics 4.5/10
How the game looks as well as technical issues like animation quality, texture design, and framerate:

Graphics aren't that great. The enviroment is pretty bland with no real detail. The characters dont even have faces, just little skin colored blobs where the head should be.

Sound 4.5/10
This category rates the quality of the sound effects and voice acting as well as the music in the game:

The music is plain out awful. Just the same boring music over and over. However, when you shoot your pistol the gunshot sounds fantastic.

Gameplay 3.5/10
In a nutshell, how fun and satisfying the game is to play. Usually considered the most important part of any title, this category encompasses the controls, design, and overall feel of the game

The controls are pretty easy, and this game isnt that fun.I played it for like a half hour the first time I got it, I didnt get anywhere and its not fun at all. I cant explain how bad this is.

Lasting Appeal 2/10
This rates how much time you're likely to spend with the game before you get tired of it. This rating also reflects the depth of the game and options such as multiplay and mini-games that keep you going after you finish the single-player experience:

There is nothing here that convinces me to want to play again. I hate this game so much I didnt even look to see if there was multiplayer. There are no mini games or anything to unlock I dont think. If this information is wrong I apoligize but this game is so bad I dont want to go back and check. Also its a pretty hard game, even on www.ign.com they said its hard.

BOTTOM LINE: 3.7/10

If your even doubting this game why get it??? There are many better titles for the Game Boy Advance. Or if you have the money, trade this game ( if you bought it already ) and your Game Boy Advance in a game shop and get a nintendo DS.

THANK YOU FOR READING MY REVIEW

At first glance, Van Helsing for the GBA looks like a solid platformer using an isometric view instead of the tried 2-D side scroller fare that is so apparant in licensed GBA games. A lot could have been done so right with Van Helsing, but this game is absolutely horrible. Featuring clunky controls, fuzzy graphics, almost non-existant difficulty, and a horde of glitches and bugs, this is one of the worst games to hit the GBA in recent memory. All in all, if you are a fan of the film and had interest in checking this game out, don't fall for it, leave this on the shelf where it belongs.

4 out of 5 stars Ok   June 4, 2004

Ihave played the other games on the consoles and was pretty impressed, and this game is ok, but not great. The weapon selection has gone way down, and you must earn your health. It gets way tough, but you can get far without having alot of trouble. As everyone says the password system is dumb. For instens, when you write the code down, you must take the paper with the password with you, or maybe by accident, your mom throws the paper away, and you must restart the game. This is a average game, but the console ones are much better.

4 out of 5 stars Classic Monsters vs. Van Helsing on your GBA   May 13, 2004

The new Van Helsing game for the GBA developed by Saffire games for Vivendi Universal is a slightly above average film licensed romp.
Your enjoyment of this game will most likely be gauged by your enjoyment of Stephen Sommer's film of the same name. The story is told with snippets of dialogue and images of the films stars (much like last years HOBBIT GBA game)
This is an action oriented title however and you will rely heavily on your crossbow, pistol, grappling hook, and tojos to survive against minions of skeletons etc...the gameplay is fairly frantic and smooth with certain bosses requiring a bit of strategy.
The graphics and sound are nice and add atmosphere throughout.
The levels could be longer but the side scrolling/isometric action is satisfying the PASSWORD SAVE SYSTEM however leaves a little to be desired in a NEW title. There are goodies to be lunlocked and many glyphs to collect.
A battery save and some audio snippets would have gone a long way here, but this is a licensed game that is actually pretty fun to play, especially if you enjoyed the movie.
